Carved from a warm-colored, yellowish marble, this object has a well-proportioned and elegant shape that pleases the viewer with its geometric and simple outline. The structure is simply punctuated by the very subtle, red veins of the stone, which intersect the lower column, drawing an ellipse on the surface. Another feature of the work is the presence of two furrows (one, in the shape of an Y, is on the upper side and the other, a single line, is under the base).
Attested in a vast area of western Asia, ranging from the Caspian Sea to the Iranian plateau and modern-day Afghanistan, these columns remain enigmatic objects. Their specific archaeological contexts would suggest that they were prized and important sculptures, probably related to the religious and cult sphere: funerary contexts, sanctuaries, caches.
