Early Imperial Romain Bronze Statuette of a Dwarf Warrior from the 1st-2nd century A.D. In very good condition with an interesting dark brown patina. The dagger is broken and the blade lost.
Although conveying a certain charm, typical of traditional folk art rather than formal representations, this statuette shows highly stylized and naive shapes which do not totally lighten the strength of the rectangular block of stone.
This statue was cast into a rosy beige clay covered with a white slip. The old woman, is seated on a stool; her face is covered with a grotesque mask and her gaze directed toward the baby she holds in her naked arms.
