Islamic Vessel with Floral Decoration
The vessel, wheel-thrown, is made of light grey-beige clay covered with a white engobe. The decoration appears to be painted in black beneath a magnificent turquoise glaze, which is slightly thicker on the base where it has partially built up.
The technique, form and decoration are characteristic of the highly glossy ceramics produced in the workshops of the city of Kashan, situated in the centre of present-day Iran.
Bowl lamp with a high foot
Turned lamp in the shape of a bowl with a pinched nozzle, provided with a tiny round central dish for the lower wick and with a ribbon handle connecting the back of the shoulder to the rim of the central dish.
Our lamp is probably a Near Eastern production dated between the 13th and the 14th century A.D.
Iapygian Spherical Jug
The shape and style allow this vessel – a known but relatively rare type – to be dated to the early phase of Daunian pottery development, characterised by high-quality pieces and predominantly geometric decoration: the presence of sculptural elements, such as the animal head on this jug, is well documented.
Iapygian Thymiaterion
The thymiaterion was a funeral vessel, very rare in the repertoire of Daunian pottery, which was generally used to make offerings and to burn scented substances.
Islamic Bowl with Abstract Decoration
A light beige-gray ceramic bowl, covered with a white slip; the decoration is painted in black under a beautiful turquoise glaze, thicker on the bottom where it partially dripped. This manufacturing technique, known as metal luster technique, is among the most important contributions of Islamic craftsmen to the development of ceramics.
Large Ceramic Bowl
This Western Asian Large Ceramic Bowl with painted animals is made of beige ceramic covered with a red slip; the shape is simple, trunconical and without handles; the flat circular base provides the bowl a good balance.
Near Eastern Bowl with the Figurine of a Bull
The bowl is perfectly turned. The ceramic is beige, but the surface is entirely covered with colored paint. The element that makes this piece a very special, perhaps unique object, is certainly the statuette of the quadruped.
Large Bowl (Tell Minis Type)
To the eyes of the modern viewer, this large glazed ceramic bowl is outstanding for its aesthetic qualities resulting from the formal simplicity and the turquoise color.
