Product Description

A delicate and elegant small jug with a trefoil mouth. This vessel is entirely black glazed and retains its original beautiful luster. Only the underside of the vessel shows the red color of the raw clay, covered with a clay slip called miltos.

This red slip clearly indicates the Colonial origin of the object, since it shows the great willingness on part of the Italiote potters to imitate the typical reddening color of Attic terracotta.

This refined oinochoe, with its smooth outline, derives essentially from metallic examples, as attested by its lightness, its narrow and rounded neck, its S-shaped handle, its central edge and its thin wall.

The sinuous shape of the vessel is also highlighted by the glossy surface, which recalls the original silver tableware that served as model. Vitrified during firing, this glaze shows an incomparable shine.

Near Eastern Bowl with the Figurine of a Bull

The bowl is perfectly turned. The ceramic is beige, but the surface is entirely covered with colored paint. The element that makes this piece a very special, perhaps unique object, is certainly the statuette of the quadruped.
