The Seal in the Shape of a Lion’s Head, modeled in the shape of a stylized leonine protome, was carved from a cream-colored limestone veined with red.
Carved from two fragments of dark green stone mottled with light patches (steatite probably), these two objects represent animals with highly stylized and abstract shapes.
This male head is cut straight under the neck. It is hollow and would have been molded in a bivalve mold. The face shows the exaggerated and archetypal features of the Greek-Roman images known as “grotesque”.
